New York, NY—The Josephine Herrick Project will hold its annual benefit party and photography auction on November 6, 2014 at Affirmation Arts New York. The event’s master of ceremonies will be Fox Business Network editor and on-air personality Elizabeth MacDonald, and JHP will honor Dr. Steven Flanagan, chair of Rusk Rehabilitation NYU Langone Hospital, and documentary photographer Nina Berman.
“It is a privilege to be part of an institution and event which recognizes members of the community who support arts education and the transformative power of photography,” commented event cochair Cathy Kaplan, Sidley Austin LLP.
Rusk Rehabilitation has partnered with the Josephine Herrick Project since WW II. “At Rusk,” said Dr. Flanagan, “we treat the full range of problems associated with brain injury—physical issues such as difficulty walking and performing the normal activities of daily life, as well as behavioral problems. Vocational therapy is also a very big part of our approach, and our vocational program is among the best in the world.”
Nina Berman is a documentary photographer, author and educator whose photographs and videos have been exhibited at more than 100 international venues, including the Whitney Museum of American Art and Dublin Contemporary. Her photographic series Marine Wedding was exhibited at the Whitney Biennial 2010 and is considered an iconic work of the Iraq war.
This year’s JHP event will feature a photography auction of 35+ prints donated by well-known photographers such as Man Ray, Douglas Kirkland and Robert Farber.

To add to the festivities, small bites will be provided by David Waltuck’s new restaurant élan, the live auction will be run by Rachel Orkin-Ramey from Christie’s and music will be provided by GraceNotes trio.
Proceeds from the benefit and photography auction will support JHP programs. The upcoming event is another excellent opportunity for the community to support arts education for veterans, youth impacted by poverty and all communities in the tristate area. In related news, the Josephine Herrick Project announced the election of Theo Vaskevitch, head of Business Development at Mylo Development LLC, to the Josephine Herrick board of directors. Mylo Development is the creator of Mylio, a next-generation photo management system that will be unveiled on October 28, 2014 as part of PhotoPlus Expo 2014.
In his role at Mylo, Vaskevitch is in charge of execution of external relationships, including the design and implementation of Mylio’s national retail sales program. He is currently executing a running rollout of the unique, new organizing product to 50 retail locations within the U.S. with a goal of expanding to 200+ locations by winter 2015.
“I am proud and honored to join the board of JHP,” said Vaskevitch. “I believe that photography is a powerful tool for good and JHP is a crucial piece in realizing its potential.”
