Valhalla, NY—Fujifilm North America Corp’s waterproof FinePix XP170 camera combines rugged protection and durability with a new wireless image transfer function that lets users wirelessly connect to a smartphone or tablet to upload images to the Internet.

Marketed for the outdoor set, the XP170 features four-way protection that is waterproof to 33 feet, shockproof to 6.5 feet, freezeproof to 14° F and dustproof. It also delivers fast autofocus speeds, a comfortable grip and advanced functionality for all-weather conditions.

“Sharing photos online has become the best and fastest way to show your family and friends your favorite images, and the versatile and durable FinePix XP170 lets users capture images in more places, and then offers easy sharing with its innovative wireless image transfer function,” said David Troy, director, Marketing, Digital Cameras, Electronic Imaging division, Fujifilm North America Corporation. “With its four-way protection, the XP170 can become your go-to camera that you aren’t afraid to get wet, be dropped, or even frozen or covered in dirt and mud—it will still deliver fantastic photos and HD movies every time.”

Key features include a 14 megapixel CMOS sensor, faster start-up and shot-to-shot times than previous models, 10-frames-per-second continuous shooting, a 2.7-inch antireflective, high-contrast LCD that was brightened for clearer viewing in sunlight and underwater, and a Fujinon 5x wide-angle optical zoom lens (28-140mm) with a reinforced hardened glass lens barrier and water-repellent coating.

With its wireless image transfer function, the XP170 can be connected to any Android smartphone or tablet, or the iPhone or iPad; users just have to download the free application “Fujifilm Photo Receiver” to their device, then follow the instructions to get connected. To start uploading, they press the XP170’s connect button to join to a device, then images are transferred to the smartphone/tablet for uploading to social networking sites.

The FinePix XP170 also offers one-touch Full HD 1080p movie recording with sound at 30 fps, even underwater. And with the optional HD Player accessory kit, with wireless remote control (HDMI cable not included), families can gather around their HDTVs to enjoy their stills and movie playback.

Other useful functions include: a CMOS-shift image stabilization (CIS) system to combat shake and subject movement for improved low-light shooting; autofocus tracking to capture action shots; 360° motion panorama mode to automatically create panoramics (horizontal or vertical); scene recognition auto mode that identifies the scene type and shooting conditions to optimize picture settings; face detection and automatic red-eye removal for the best people pictures; and an extended-life rechargeable Li-Ion battery with charger. $279.95 in blue and orange.

An accessory kit for Fujifilm’s FinePix XP170 containing an adjustable float strap, protective silicone skin and a neoprene sports case is also available. fujifilmusa.com
