Tokyo, Japan—Shigetaka Komori, president and CEO of Fujifilm Holdings Corporation, announced the company plans to appoint a new chairman and a new president of Fujifilm Holdings as well as its operating company, Fujifilm Corporation.

The appointments, which will be formally decided at the board of directors’ meeting on June 28, following the ordinary general meeting of shareholders, are as follows. For both Fujifilm Holdings Corporation and Fujifilm Corporation, Shigetaka Komori, currently president, representative director and CEO, will become chairman, representative director and CEO; and Shigehiro Nakajima, now representative director and executive vice president, will assume the positions of president, representative director and COO.

Under the new management structure, the chairman assumes the post of CEO and will be responsible for final approval of all management tasks. The president will also serve as COO and will be responsible for operations under the overall management policy, with a focus on: strengthening sales and marketing; increasing cost competitiveness; improving R&D efficiency; and enhancing value-added productivity and the capabilities of administrative and other non-production staff.

During the transition from film to digital, Fujifilm Holdings faced its worst crisis since its foundation as global demand for color films—core business products that had for many years bolstered Fujifilm’s earnings—entered a rapid downward spiral. The Fujifilm Group navigated through the new wave of digitalization by making concerted efforts to undertake corporate structural reforms and substantially transform its business structure for growth.

The company has now formulated a medium-term management plan, Vision80, which outlines its targets and strategies to be achieved by FY 2013, the 80th anniversary of the company’s foundation. In line with this, Fujifilm Holdings aims to drive growth in the global market in the priority business fields of healthcare, highly functional materials, document solutions, graphic arts, optical devices and digital imaging. fujifilm.com
