Valhalla, NY—Fujifilm’s new flagship FinePix HS50EXR features a 42x manual zoom lens with a 24–1,000mm equivalent range and a 1/2-inch EXR CMOS II sensor with phase detection that Fujifilm says achieves “the world’s fastest autofocus speed in its class.”

The Fujifilm 16MP EXR CMOS II sensor works with the EXR processor II, which has faster processing speeds than the previous generation, to achieve a 0.5-sec start-up time, interval time between shots of 0.5 sec, and continuous shooting of 11-fps bursts at the full 16MP resolution (five frames). And, the intelligent hybrid autofocus system automatically selects between phase-detection AF or contrast AF in low light to ensure the optimal focus system is used.

The HS50EXR also uses a new focus-peaking feature in manual focus mode to help photographers by highlighting high-contrast areas of a subject and provide a guide for focusing in situations where it’s difficult to tell whether the subject is correctly focused. In addition, the camera shoots super macro photography at 0.39 inch from 24mm wide angle up to 1,000mm telephoto.

The HS50EXR lens uses aspherical, ED and cemented elements, and it achieves blur reduction with optical image stabilization over the entire f/2.8–5.6 aperture range, while Fujinon Super EBC coatings help reduce ghosting and flare.

Other features include: a 920k-dot electronic viewfinder; a 3.0-inch 920k-dot LCD that folds out and flips around; Full HD 1080p/60-fps movie recording with continuous phase-detection AF; a built-in stereo microphone; the ability to record lower resolution movies at 480 fps and capture slow motion action; 10 film simulation modes that provide the effects of traditional Fujifilm films like Velvia, Provia and Astia; multiple exposures; and a range of filter effects, including pop color, miniature and partial color.

The FinePix HS50EXR ships March 2013 for $549.95. fujifilmusa.com
