DIR March 2015 Editor’s Note: Rudy Would Be Proud

2011

While DIR’s coverage of the International CES is behind us, we still have a little more to say.

We always use our March issue to present the Rudy Awards—bestowed on the most interesting products that our editors noticed in conjunction with the show. They’re not always the obvious ones but rather some of the outliers we found in and around the halls of the LVCC that impressed us. Or even a product that caught our eye more recently.

We dedicate this annual award to Rudy Maschke, one of the founders of our magazine. Rudy was a true gentleman who was always able to find the good in a situation. He passed away a few years ago, so we continue his legacy through these prestigious awards.

In this issue we also feature a host of cameras that we’re seeing for the first time, including ILCs that were just introduced and the latest in ultra-zoom point-and-shoot compact cameras. We still believe that the versatility of a high-quality lens is what separates real cameras from smartphones, and we applaud the manufacturers for continuing to impress us with their engineering prowess.

DIR also strives to bring you the best of what’s new in technology, and the articles on camera drones and Apple Pay will bring perspective to how we must adapt to our changing world.

And finally, we’d like to congratulate the Paymer family with their decision to move their Camera Land store from Manhattan to a beautiful retail space on Long Island. It’s truly an impressive store, and we wish them the best.
