Lake Success, NY—For photographers of all levels, three feature-packed PowerShot cameras from Canon—the G15, S110 and SX50 HS—are designed with advanced features, faster focusing speed and multiple-shot speed.
All three compact models include advancements in autofocus (AF) technology for high-speed responsive AF systems with significantly reduced lag time, and the PowerShot G15 and S110 include a newly designed 12.1 megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS image sensor for improved light gathering and image quality. Each camera also offers high-end features: an f/1.8-2.8 5x optical zoom lens on the PowerShot G15; Wi-Fi connectivity on the PowerShot S110 for on-the-spot sharing; and a 50x optical zoom lens on the PowerShot SX50 HS.

PowerShot G15. In Canon’s G series, which provides some of the most advanced features in the PowerShot line, the G15 boasts a 28mm wide-angle f/1.8-2.8 lens with 5x optical zoom for low-light shooting or shallow depth of field. And Canon’s HS system combines the camera’s Digic 5 image processor and Canon 1/1.7-inch 12.1MP High-Sensitivity CMOS image sensor to enhance low-light image quality at a maximum ISO speed of 12,800. The G15 also shoots 1080p Full HD video with a built-in stereo microphone, and zooming is enabled for framing while recording.
Other PowerShot G15 features include: advancements in Canon’s AF system with improved AF times and reduced lag over previous G-series models; high-speed burst HQ mode for continuous capture of 10 frames at 12.1MP; intelligent IS to stabilize images and video; a 3.0-inch 922,000-dot LCD display; and an accessory shoe for Speedlites and an optional optical viewfinder. The G15 can also accommodate additional optional accessories such as a teleconverter lens, a conversion lens adapter to allow the attachment of a macro ring light or macro twin light, and a threaded filter adapter for 58mm lens filters. PowerShot S110. Built-in Wi-Fi allows this stylish camera to share images and video to social networking sites through the Canon iMage Gateway or to Wi-Fi enabled devices such as iOS or Android smartphones and tablets with the free download of the Canon CameraWindow app—or to select PowerShot cameras or a PC. The wireless features let the camera act as a wireless network and record GPS data acquired from a smartphone using the Canon CameraWindow app, and send images directly to a Wi-Fi compatible printer.
Notable here are: a 24mm wide-angle lens with 5x optical zoom and bright f/2.0 aperture for low-light photography or soft backgrounds with shallow depth of field; Canon’s HS system; a Canon 1/1.7-inch 12.1MP High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor; a maximum ISO of 12,800; improved AF times and reduced lag over previous S-series models; continuous full-res capture at 10 fps; 1080p Full HD video recording with a built-in stereo microphone, optical zoom while shooting and playback via HDMI output; menu navigation, image playback and view made intuitive via a 3.0-inch capacitive touch-panel LCD, along with a touch-shutter feature; an intelligent IS system that matches the shooting conditions with one of six stabilization modes; and an optional WP-DC47 waterproof case for shooting at depths of 130 feet. $449.99.
PowerShot SX50 HS. With the first high-powered 50x optical zoom (24-1200mm) and 24mm wide-angle lens with optical image stabilization, the SX50 HS also offers 1080p Full HD video capabilities with stereo sound and optical zoom while recording and a maximum ISO of 6400. Also with improved autofocus speeds and lag time, this model’s high-speed burst HQ mode enables continuous capture of 12.1MP full-res photos at 10 fps.
Other features include a 2.8-inch vari-angle LCD screen (461,000 dots) and zoom framing assist to help users locate, track and capture subjects while using the camera’s extreme telephoto lens. By pressing a button, the zoom framing assist seek function remembers the user’s previous zoom position, zooms out to let the shooter locate a subject and zoom back into the saved position when the button is released. A second zoom framing assist lock button permits the camera to lock the image stabilization onto the center of the frame for additional compensation of camera movement.
