Lake Success, NY—Along with two Pixma Pro printers and three PowerShot point-and-shoot cameras, Canon USA announced its EOS 6D digital SLR—a mid-range camera that couples a newly designed 20.2 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and Digic 5+ image processor with a built-in wireless transmitter and GPS features.
Designed to bridge the gap for budget-minded advanced amateur photographers, videographers and cinematographers looking to step up to full-frame imaging, the 6D includes 1080p Full HD video capabilities and a 3.0-inch Clear View LCD monitor that provides 1,040,000-dot VGA resolution, a 170º viewing angle and live-view shooting with 100% coverage.

The camera offers full manual options for creative control in addition to intuitive automatic settings to help novice photographers. Its construction is pro aimed with a 100,000-cycle shutter and EOS integrated cleaning system. Advancements include the new Digic 5+ image processor that powers the camera’s 14-bit analog-to-digital conversion and continuous shooting at 4.5 frames per second (fps).
Thanks to the combination of its CMOS sensor and image processor, the 6D has an ISO range from 100-25,600 with a low setting, L: 50, and two high settings, H1: 51,200 and H2: 102,400, for low-light capabilities. To support the sensitivity of the sensor, the camera’s autofocus system includes a newly developed 11-point AF sensor with a center cross-type point and EV -3 sensitivity rating for focusing even in extremely low light.
Borrowing from the EOS 5D series, the EOS 6D provides full manual control over exposure and audio levels while recording video. It offers NTSC and PAL video modes at multiple frame rates, recording 1080p at 30, 24 and 25 fps, 720p at 60 and 50 fps, and standard video at 30 and 25 fps. It provides 29 minutes and 59 seconds of continuous recording (with 4GB automatic file partitioning) in selectable All i-frame or IPB compressions with embedded time code.
For connectivity and control, the DSLR has a built-in wireless transmitter that enables it to share images and video with the user’s choice of wireless devices, such as select PowerShot cameras, smartphones or tablets, and cloud-based destinations, including social networking sites through the Canon iMAGE Gateway. Additionally, the free Canon EOS Remote app, available for iOS and Android systems, permits a smartphone or tablet to remotely connect, control and operate the connected EOS 6D.
Other features include: HDR (high dynamic range) mode that captures three exposures and combines them in-camera for an image with shadow detail and bright highlights; multiple exposure mode where users combine up to nine images into a single composite image; scene intelligent auto and special scene modes; and compatibility with SD, SDHC and SDXC cards, including Ultra High Speed (UHS-I) cards.
The Canon EOS 6D DSLR will be sold in a body-only configuration for $2,099 and also in a kit with Canon’s EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens for $2,899. Both configurations are expected to ship December 2012. usa.canon.com
