BusinessWeek on Friday released its fourth annual ranking of the world’s 25 most innovative companies, and the list was dominated by technology producers. Apple took the top spot, with Google second and Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony and Nokia all making the top ten.

Among retailers in the tech sector, Amazon.com ranked highest, with Wal*Mart and Target making the list at numbers 23 and 24.

The list was compiled by the magazine with some help from the Boston Consulting Group; together they conducted a survey of executives. In addition, financial performance of the companies was taken into account.

The issue is on newsstands Friday. For the full list, visit www.businessweek.com/go/08/innovative
